THE GETAUVE JOURNAL

The Year We Stopped Rushing

Chapter 1 — The habit

Ten years in, our marriage ran like a well-oiled machine: two careers, two children, a calendar that scheduled everything down to the hour. We still loved each other. We just stopped noticing.

Intimacy, when it happened, was a habit—lights off, ten minutes, done. Neither of us said anything about it. That was part of the habit too.

Chapter 2 — The anniversary

On our tenth anniversary, Thomas handed me a box wrapped in matte black paper. Inside was the GETAUVE Couples Intimacy Bundle—two sleek devices and a bottle of lubricant, plus a card that read: "Let's take the long way home."

I laughed. He laughed. We spent the first hour making terrible jokes about the instruction manual, which was, to be fair, genuinely terrible. Somewhere between the laughing and the fumbling, something softened. For the first time in months, we were both in the room.

Chapter 3 — The first slow night

We didn't know what we were doing. That was the point.

The lubricant went on first—VELVET TOUCH, cool and smooth, turning a hesitant touch into something that lingered. Thomas read my face the way he used to read my emails: carefully, attentively, like my reactions mattered. I read his back.

Then we found the dual controls. Each of us held half of the intensity—me, the vibrator that built in soft layers; him, the pace. Do you want more? / A little. / Like this? / Yes—slower. We were negotiating something we had never discussed out loud: what we wanted, how fast, and whether we were brave enough to ask.

The world outside faded. Not dramatically—no orchestras, no epiphanies. It just became irrelevant. The children were asleep. The deadlines were asleep. The ten years of autopilot were asleep. It was just us, breathing together, moving at a speed neither of us had allowed ourselves in years.

Chapter 4 — What changed after

The first night was not a miracle. It was a lesson: we were out of practice at being present.

So we scheduled it—not sex, but time. Tuesday nights became ours. Some nights we used the bundle; some nights we just talked with the lights on. The toys became an excuse to slow down, and the slowing down became the point.

Three months in, we noticed the small things. We touched each other more during the day—a hand on the shoulder, a palm on the lower back. We argued less, or at least we argued softer. The kids caught us kissing in the kitchen and made gagging noises, which was the greatest compliment they could have given us.

Chapter 5 — The night it all came home

It happened on a Thursday, on no special occasion. The kitchen was still a mess, the email I had been dreading was sitting unanswered, and the kids were finally asleep. Thomas looked at me across the counter and said, "Tuesday isn't tonight. But I'd like it to be."

That night, there was no instruction manual. No jokes, no fumbling—just the four acts we had practiced for months: the slow start, the building, the deep connection, the quiet afterward. His hand found mine in the dark, and for one long, ordinary, extraordinary moment, everything else was simply gone.

We didn't fix our marriage that year. That's the thing—it wasn't broken. What we fixed was our attention. We stopped rushing the only part of our life that deserved to be slow.

Chapter 6 — The year after

A year later, the bundle sits on our nightstand like a good book—used, loved, and occasionally forgotten for a week before we remember why we bought it. The review I would write, if anyone asked, is the same one I read on the product page the night I ordered it: "After ten years of marriage, this togetherness set helped us slow down."

It did. And we're still not in a hurry.
